Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine enters its second year with no end on the horizon. So, Joe Biden must get down on his hands and knees and BEG Vladimir Putin to meet him in Geneva for peace talks.
8,087,952 Ukrainians are now refugees spread out across Europe. An additional five million have been forced out of their homes and “internally displaced.”
And then there is the death.
Foreign Policy reports:
By one estimate from Harvard University, more than 130,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or severely wounded, in addition to the deaths of more than 7,000 Ukrainian civilians.
Four hundred of those dead Ukranians are children.
Begging for peace is a sign of strength.
So far, all America seems to be offering is weapons. Biden paid a surprise visit to Ukraine Monday promising an additional $500 million in aid and more sanctions against Russia.
That’s one way Biden can help the Ukranian people. Another way would be to act like a man and get down on his hands and knees and beg Putin for peace.
Biden is stronger than Putin because America is stronger than Russia. So beg.
The West is doing fine. So beg.
The price of energy seems to have stabilized in Europe despite an artificial shortage manufactured by America when, according to Investigative Reporter Seymour Hersh, Biden gave orders to blow up the Nord Stream pipeline.
Even some Western allies, like France and Germany, see no point to endless war and are urging negotiations.
The Wall Street Journal reports:
President Emmanuel Macron of France and Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he needed to start considering peace talks with Moscow when the three leaders met in Paris earlier this month, people familiar with the conversation said.
While France and Germany want talks, U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, like his American counterpart, doesn’t want an end to this conflict any time soon. Sunak said Ukraine and NATO should form a deeper military alliance, something he wants discussed this summer (!) when NATO holds its annual meeting.
THIS SUMMER? Why the rush?
Sunak’s predecessor, Boris Johnson, back in May of last year, paid a surprise visit to Ukraine where he reportedly scuttled Ukraine’s plans to start talking with Russia.
Why would anyone oppose talking? Unless you wanted permanent war.
The U.N. General Assembly this week passed a resolution condemning Russia for the invasion and ordered an immediate withdrawal. One hundred and forty one nations voted in favor of the resolution with six nations joining Russia in voting against it.
Why isn’t Joe Biden going before the U.N. and BEGGING for peace?
China this week offered up a 12 point peace plan that called for immediate peace talks predicated on both sides respecting the “sovereignty of all nations.” Ukranian President Vladimir Zelensky said there were parts of the proposal he liked, adding he planned to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping later this year.
But, Zelensky added that he worried it might be hard to trust China since it could be planning on delivering weapons to Russia. Well, we know America has already delivered weapons to Ukraine. Somebody is going to have to trust somebody.
If only there were an international body dedicated to peace that could sort this all out. We could call it, I don’t know, the United Nations?
On Friday, Joe Biden’s National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, dismissed China’s peace plan as meaningless.
Where’s Sullivan’s peace plan? Where’s Biden’s?
China is siding with Putin, America and Europe are siding with Zelensky while millions of Ukrainians are displaced, dead or wounded.
The major powers, including Ukraine and Russia, were able to iron out an agreement keeping the sea lanes safe for grain, oil and gas. It’s amazing how willing our side is to negotiate with Putin when it’s about something we care about.
It would be nice if America cared about the Ukrainian people as much as we care about their grain and energy.
As I said, what does Biden have to lose begging Putin for peace?
America’s GDP is $23.2 trillion. The European Union’s GDP is more than $17 trillion. Russia’s GDP is $1.779 trillion.
Obviously, Biden can afford to get down on his hands and knees and BEG PUTIN for peace.
What does he have to lose? Other than another hundred thousand Ukranian lives.
